It is about a metre (3 ft) long. It usually sits on tree trunks and branches and feeds on insects. When frightened the Frilled Lizard opens its mouth wide and ruffles out its colourful scaly frill like an open umbrella. If that doesn't scare its enemies it usually runs away. Sometimes it may also run towards its enemies hissing loudly trying to intimidate them. Like other reptiles its lays eggs. The young are left to fend for themselves. |
